Dear Glenknoll Families:

The Glenknoll Elementary PTA is proud to sponsor a school wide Jog-A-Thon! On

Friday, April 17, 2015 all students will get “Movin’ and Groovin’” to support our school

and make healthy choices. “Grooves” will be provided by a DJ, and students will jog

down on the lower field, followed by a popsicle treat! Students can acquire raffle

tickets based on donation amounts and on the number of laps they complete on the

day of the Jog-A-Thon.

Along with this letter, you will also receive a donation collection envelope. Details for

donation collection and submission are printed on the envelope. Prize levels and

descriptions are printed on the front of the envelope. A minimum $50 donation

collection earns the student a free Movin’ and Groovin’ Jog-A-Thon t-shirt! (Students

who will not be receiving a shirt are welcome to wear their red Cougar Spirit Wear

shirts on the day of the event.) The form on the bottom of this letter is for students

who are eligible for the free t-shirt and must be returned inside the donation

collection envelope no later than 3pm on Friday, March 20th.

Donations returned after 3pm on Friday, March 20th, will be

accepted—however—will not be eligible for t-shirt orders, or business

Please be sure that your student’s name and teacher are written on the memo line

of ALL checks sent in to the school. Thank you for assisting your student with this

fundraiser! We look forward to providing them a fun opportunity to get “Movin’ and

Groovin’”! Feel free to contact me with any questions at

Traffic Enforcement

Please remember to follow all traffic laws as you drop your students off and pick them up at Glenknoll. Some parents have reported dangerous traffic situations and we have requested increased traffic enforcement. Help keep our students safe and avoid a costly traffic ticket:

  • Observe Speed Limits in the School Zone
  • Do not park or drop off/pick up students in the “No Parking” zones
  • Observe the Right Turn Only signs when leaving either parking lot
  • Yield for pedestrians who are already in the crosswalk
  • Parents and students: Look both ways before stepping off the curb

Glenknoll News

Principal’s Message

One of the first signs that spring is coming is the change to Daylight Savings Time. Next Sunday, March 8th, we “spring ahead” and set our clocks an hour ahead. As a result, we have the potential of losing an hour’s sleep. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, school age children need about 10 hours of sleep per night.*  Be sure to set your clocks an hour ahead next week on Sunday night, before you go to bed. Make sure students get to bed on time—the new time—so that they will be able to get up and feel refreshed on Monday morning. It may still take several days to fully adjust, but it will pay off for you in the long run.

Each year, Glenknoll welcomes a limited number of “co-teachers” from our local colleges and universities as they complete training for their teaching credentials. Formerly known as “student teachers,” these individuals come to Glenknoll for supervised experience in our classrooms. Help me in welcoming three new co- teachers to our campus:

Ms. Litzinger with Mrs. Laurich’ 2/3 combo

Ms. Conley with Mrs. Hess’ K/1 combo

Mr. Nguyen with Mrs. Taylor’s Kindergarten

Our second Trimester has ended and Report Cards will go home with students on March 13th. Glenknoll maintains an Honor Roll for students in grades 4-6. The Honor Roll is designated at the end of the second and third trimester each year. Students who receive a minimum of a 3.5 Grade point Average in the six academic areas, and all “Excellent” or “Very Good” marks in effort will receive an Honor Roll Certificate this Trimester. Students with straight A's and all “Excellent” or “Very Good” marks receive the “Principal’s Honor Roll” Certificate. Congratulations to all our students and staff for their hard work throughout our second trimester!
